Research Paper
By the end of the semester, I want you to produce a publishable related paper on a topic related to judicial politics. Start thinking now about the question(s) that you want to address; email me your thoughts by the mid-September. After I hear from you, we'll set up in-office meeting.
In preparing your paper, please follow AJPS's submission guidelines.
1. The American Journal of Political Science (AJPS) seeks manuscripts that make outstanding contributions to scholarly knowledge about notable theoretical concerns, puzzles, or controversies in any subfield of political science....
2. Generally, the AJPS follows the style guidelines of the American Political Science Association's Style Manual for Political Science and The Chicago Manual of Style (15th edition) for issues not addressed in the former manual or these instructions.
3. The AJPS prefers manuscripts that are in the range of 25-35 pages long on standard 8.5 X 11 inch paper and formatted as explained below. We will not review manuscripts that exceed 45 pages. Manuscripts that are at or near the maximum length will be subjected to special editorial review regarding whether their length is justified.
4. An abstract of 150 words or less should be included on the title page of the manuscript. The manuscript pages should be numbered consecutively, including tables, graphs and appendices. All the text, footnotes, bibliographic citations, and appendix materials in a manuscript must be double-spaced and printed in a standard 12-point type font. Tables and figures may be single-spaced and should be printed at the end of the manuscript, each one on a separate page.
Note to First-Year Ph.D. Students. In lieu of one research paper, you can prepare three shorter essays. If you plan to take advantage of this option, please let me know by October 1.
